Back at work getting ready for this weekend's wedding at the Ginn resort. Alison and Darren are a sweet couple from New Jersey. Alison is originally from Texas and met Darren from New Jersey in Tennessee. Now they are getting married in Florida. They sure do get around. The following week Jacqueline and William from The Bronx, New York are coming down for a beach wedding. We haven't met them yet but have been burning up the phone wires and emails planning all the details of the wedding in Vilano Beach. We just booked the wedding of Cyndy and Michael from Maryland. Their wedding will be at Anastasia State Park on August 28th. We are going to have to get into shape for the long boardwalk there. I don't know how long it really is but it seems like at least a mile in the heat. I love summer, but lately we have been having a real heatwave for the last six weeks. Remember, if you are having a beach wedding here in Florida in the summer it is going to be hot hot hot, so dress lightly and keep it short. A good idea might be bottled water with lables with your names and the date on them to pass out to your guests. We carry the lables at www.exceptionalweddingsupplies.com. You can paste them over the lables of the water you buy..

Another Vilano Beach wedding

We have just booked the wedding of Jacqueline and William. This will be a destination wedding in Vilano Beach. The couple are from the Bronx, New York and are looking forward to their beautiful beach wedding followed by a dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Kingfish Grill. Jacqueline is ordering her cake from Publix. Their cakes are amazingly good and very budget wise. They also provide excellent service to their customers. John is from Florida and Christa is from Texas, but fate brought them together and even though they lived so far apart, they managed to see each other often and fell in love. The ceremony was held on Vilano Beach just above St. Augustine. The reception was at the Reef restaurant. Christa was gorgeous in a strapless gown with a sort of smocking detail on the skirt and a beaded top. Hydrangeas were used for her bouquet and for decorations. John was very hot in a black suit. It was the hottest day of the year. Someone said she heard it was 102 degrees. I believe it. Fortunately the ceremony was not too long and everyone arrived on time so we were able to get back into the air conditioning before anyone passed out. John is a pilot so the two were off in a private plane for a trip to Bahamas for their honeymoon. Family and friends came from New Jersey, Texas Kentucky and Florida for the wedding. This couple is much loved by many people and deserve the best.

We just booked the wedding of Walter and Tara. Quinten and Melissa were married in 2006 at the beach at the River to the Sea state park. It was this same spot where they chose to have their son Christened. Malik Antonio Johnson is six months old and tolerated the whole procedure with great patience. The family invited us to join them at the celebration dinner at Portugalia Restaurant in Bunnell. The food and the company were most enjoyable. We look forward to many more years serving this wonderful family with their spiritual celebrations.

Meeting Marissa

Last night we met with Marissa who is being married in September. As nice as it was to visit our son and see some old friends, there's no place like home. We have had a little break but are now gearing up for the next season. Summer is always a little slow and it gives us time to regroup as we book up weddings for the fall. We bought a litttle camper and plan to do a bit of exploring this summer. We are always in touch with our I phones and laptop, so keep those emails coming. You will be answered right away as always.

There is a lot of talk on the internet forums about DIY (Do it yourself) weddings. Yes, some things can be done yourself, but it's your wedding! Do you really need all that stress? Weddings don't have to be a huge expense and you can still use professionals to help you pull it off so it doesn't look like you did it yourself. A wedding planner is a good place to start. She (or occasionally he) knows who the best vendors are and is in a position to negotiate prices for you. They can help you set up a budget and stick to it. You can avoid expensive mistakes with a good wedding planner. The wedding planner is with you every step of the way, accompanying you to your appointments to keep things on track. She is someone to help you design the theme of your wedding and make sure the components complement each other. She will come to know your taste and style and will help your wedding reflect that style. A wedding is not just another party. It is the reflection of your commitment to each other and the start of your life together. It is worth the investment to have it done right. The thing I want to stress here is that your wedding planner should be an experienced and credentialed professional. The Association of Bridal Consultants requires classes, apprenticeship and performance to be a member. Look for the ABC logo on the website of your wedding planner to be sure she is qualified to do the job.

Helmut and Solangel

Solangel came to the U.S. from Belize and Helmut came from Germany. As fate would have it, their paths crossed and they fell in love. They were married yesterday evening at the Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine. The wedding was supposed to be at Washington Oaks state park, but four days of rain made the ground too soggy and the wedding was moved indoors to the reception site. I wish I had taken a picture of the three year old ring bearer, but he was absolutely the cutest little guy and walked down the aisle all by himself holding the ring pillow with great dignity. The flower girl, a little older performed flawlessley spacing out her petals in perfect order. Children can be so unpredictable but whatever they do they are adorable. Even when they sit down in the middle of the aisle and cry. Helmut and Soli are off to a honeymoon in Jamaica and we wish them all the love in the world in their life together.

Coming up soon

We are back from our vacation in New York and New Jersey. We saw our son who lives in New Jersey for mother's day and saw many old friends from where we used to live before moving to warm and sunny (usually, but certainly not today) Florida. It is amazing how they got older and we stayed the same. We also went out to the veteran's cemetary on Long Island to pay our respects to Rev. Ted's mom and dad who were both veterans, and to my brother who also served. Although I grew up in Manhattan, I can't deal with the noise and traffic any more and I am so glad to be home.

I got a call from Soli today. She and Helmut are getting married on Thursday and have decided to change the ceremony site from Washington Oaks to the reception site in St. Augustine. We are having the most torrential rain storms this week. Seven inches already and due to continue through the week. Rev. Ted just got a call that he had to go our to our boat to secure it because it is about to float away. I will be back on Thursday to tell you all about Soli and Helmut's wedding and will hopefully have pictures. Tonight we have the meeting of the Volusia County Wedding Professionals and tomorrow night a meeting of the board of the Flagler County Wedding Professionals. It is a very busy week.

Bridal Show update

We have moved our bridal show date and place. The reception was around the pool in the back yard. Craig is the golf pro at the World Golf Village so his friends from there did the catering. Fantastic food. Christine's colors were pink, coral and mint green. Her cake was decorated with real pink tinged orchids. The bride's bouquet was pink roses and mint green hydrangeas. Pam and Craig had a reading of one of my favorite poems about marriage and the sand ceremony with mint green and coral sand. Pam and Craig have waited a long time for this special day and everything went perfectly. Ashley was georgous in a beaded strapless mermaid gown. Matt was tall and handsome in his black tux. Her colors were mint green and yellow. Her two sisters were her joint maids of honor and she had two bridesmaids. The maids of honor wore long gowns in green and the bridesmaids had tea length dresses in mint green overlaid with black tulle. Very unusual and very beautiful. The most unusual touch was the pair of red shoes that Ashley wore with her white wedding gown. Since the gown was floor length, they didn't really show except for an occasional glimpse of red. Ashley's sisters and parents were born in England and Ashley was born in the USA and while the rest of her family has English accents, she does not. I have a feeling she is quite the independent spirit.

Vacations and weddings

We have been away. We took a week off and went to Las Vegas to our timeshare there. This brings up a good point. We have six timeshares. Because of this, we can often purchase extra weeks at a very low price at some really nice resorts. If you are planning a honeymoon and want to save some money, and are one of our couples of course, it might be worth a chance to see if we can do something for you to save you some money and have a really great honeymoon at a great price. We might even be able to get you a few nights free if you are willing to listen to a timeshare presentation, but with the extra weeks, you don't have to do that.

We came back to do the wedding of Jessie and Derek at Anastasia Island State Recreation Area in St. Augustine. It couldn't have been a better day. The sky was blue as could be. The couple marked the aisle with potted bromeliads sunk into the sand and a bamboo framed canopy over the altar area. The bridesmaids wore dark orange knee length dresses and Jessica wore a long formal white gown with flowers in her hair. The men were all dressed in white which looked brilliant against the sand and sky. The bromeliads and the bouquets were in an assortment of brilliant colors. It made a lovely scene. This lovely couple are off to a honeymoon in St. Lucia and I am sure they will have a great time. Derek is in the military so they are making the most of their time together till he gets the dreaded call to serve.

Sergio and JoAnn's garden wedding

Sergio and JoAnn just got married. They had a sand ceremony using brown and tan sand and the sand set from our exceptionalweddingsupplies.com. It was engraved with their names and the date. They also had a memorial vase of peach roses for her mother. Her father read the Apache Blessing to them and her sister read a poem. Sergio and Joann had a medallion ceremony where Sergio presented a necklace to JoAnn's daughter, Brianna as a token of his promise to love her as his own and to help JoAnn in raising her. No, that is not a mis-spelling. The three t's represent the trinity. The castle was built after a 13th century castle in Ireland by Rusty and his friends. It is an amazing place. Misty and Robert are coming in from Newport News, Virginia where he is in the military. The wedding is this weekend. The military gives us many short-notice weddings since they don't seem to give their members a lot of notice about when they will be active.

Megan and Damen

The Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine was the site of the Saturday wedding of Damen and Megan. The weather was perfect despite earlier forecasts of rain. Megan wore a beaded gown with a short train and carried purple irises. The bridesmaids wore dark hunter green gowns with bouguets of various colors. The men were dressed in tuxedos. They are such a lovely couple, just perfect together. Megan and Damen had the handfasting ceremony. This is an ancient pagan tradition adopted by Celtic marriages in which thirteen ribbons, each of a different color representing wishes for the couple (for example, green for weath, white for purity, etc) are tied around the couple's hands. The ribbons are removed before the end of the ceremony, but they are reminded that the it is up to them to keep the bonds tied. It is from this tradition that we get the term "tying the knot." In ancient times the couple was thereby joined for a year and a day at which time they would go again before the officiant to either have the marriage made permanent or to dissolve their union. Today we have marriage licenses so they only have until Monday when we file the license. But we know from the way they looked at each other that there is no danger of that happening. We wish them a happy marriage forever.

Friday, April 3 was the wedding of Michelle and Lee at Anastasia Island State Park. Lee is a dentist who has been in practice one year. I am sure he will be able to keep that beautiful smile on his bride's face. This is certainly true for us too. While we have some weddings booked for the fall, most seem to be coming in just a month or two before the wedding. Last week we met Pamela and Craig. They are getting married on May 2nd. Just over a month away. I find these days I am working on three or so weddings at one time, no longer having the leisure of months of planning. I am not complaining though. It is a new challenge and other than occasionally getting the names mixed up in the first drafts, it seems to be working out well. Pamela and Craig are getting married outside a beach house in crescent beach. They are a local couple, (practically neighbors) who still appreciate what a great place this is to vacation as well as to live. We are very excited about performing their wedding ceremony and look forward to meeting their families and friends as well.

A wedding in the mist

Michael and Dawn came down from Pittsburgh for their wedding on the beach. We had it at the River to the Sea Preserve. They have been staying at Disney World and drove out for the day. After the wedding they intended to head up to see a bit of St. Augustine before returning to Disney. The day was very overcast despite the forecast of partly cloudy. There was a light mist falling but it wasn't enough to dampen our spirits. The clouds made a stunning backdrop for the ceremony. Dawn's two daughters and Michael's two sons were included with a medallion ceremony where the boys were presented with shark's tooth necklaces and the girls got more feminine necklaces as tokens of the day The couple had a sand ceremony with mint green and navy blue sand and topped it off with sand from the beach so that they could remember our beautiful beach forever.

Lisa and Robert

Lisa and Robert came down from New York to her parent's home in Palm Coast to be married yesterday evening. She rented a tent to use as a dressing room at the top of the stairs. This way she didn't have to walk all the way back to the house and change in the bathroom which is rather small. I can't think of better way to celebrate.

Marisa and Robert

We just heard from Marisa and Robert who are getting married on September 26th. Steven and Holly had come down to St. Augustine with their families from Loveland Ohio to be married on the beach. There was obviously a storm brewing off to the west as we arrived for the 5:30 PM ceremony. Well God was on our side. The wind died down and the rain held off and the ceremony was beautiful. Holly chose the colors of the ocean, sea green and aqua blue for her sand ceremony. Their son Zachary, not quite two, was a delight as he checked out the shells on the beach while mom and dad got married. Holly's dress was perfect for a beach wedding. A street length dress of creamy white chiffon with a silver waist band, it beautifuly combined the elegance of the occasion with the simplicity of the beach. While they chose the traditional "Canon in D Major" for the processional, Brian Paisley's "She's Everything" was chosen for the recessional. It was agreed that it described Holly perfectly. We wish them a happy time the rest of their vacation and a safe trip back to Ohio, brrrrr.

Bridal Show

Sunday, February 23rd, there will be a bridal show at the Belk department store in Palm Coast from 2 to 5 PM. After several days of very cold weather, with temps falling into the 20's at night, the day Amy and Greg chose to get married was warm and sunny. Their wedding was held at the Riverside Pavillion in Port Orange. Apparantly Amy is known for being a bit late to most occasions and the joke among her friends was that she would be late for her own wedding. The joke turned out to be on them because after the processional for her attendands, we played "Waiting on a Woman" for a couple of minutes before playing the bridal march. The song is about a woman who is always late, but includes the lines that although she was late for the wedding, the honeymoon made it all worth while. It was at that point that we faded it out and started the traditional "Here Comes the Bride". Amy and Greg were a great couple to work with, fun and relaxed. We wish them every happiness in the future.

A church wedding

Last friday afternoon was the wedding of Sergio and Gail. They were married at the Chapel in the Garden in Port Orange. This chapel is ideal for a "church" wedding for the couple with no church affiliation. Set in magnificently landscaped grounds, it is a lovely place complete with a loft for great photographs of the ceremony, a stained glass window and a church bell to ring after the ceremony. The theme colors were black and pink. The groomsmen and Sergio wore black tuxedos with pink ties and vests and the bridesmaids were in pink. The flower girl had a black and pink dress and pink flowers prevailed, although the bride was in a traditional white beaded gown. The weather this time of year can be unpredictable so Sergio and Gail lucked out with a perfectly sunny 70 degree day.

New Year's Day wedding

David and Nicole celebrated the new year by getting married on New Year's day, which as I have said, is our anniversary so it was a very special wedding for us. Nicole, a former Marine and David, a former Army Soldier are both avid fishers and hunters, so it was natural that their theme was camouflage. Their cake, made by Publix in the Hammock was frosted in camouflage and featured a stream cascading down the cake complete with fish, trees, animals, rocks, and assorted equipment. I knew Publix was good but this was spectacular. They also had an armadillo shaped groom's cake also made by Publix. Their bride and groom cake topper was hand carved from wood. Our new wedding supplies store carries camouflage ring pillows, pen and guest book sets among other things. Nicole's mother made a ring pillow shaped like a fish and carried in a fishnet. Very cute. They had their ceremony at Washington Oaks at the octagon and the reception was held at the Palm Coast Yacht Club. Our good friend Capt. Kirk was the DJ. Laura and Michael were married at the Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine. Laura, her maid of honor and her parents arrived in a white carriage drawn by a white horse. She was very beautiful in a formal white gown with silver embroidery. Her groom wore a cream colored suit and they made a lovely couple. Laura and Michael opted for a traditional religious ceremony with a unity candle. They were very lucky that the candle stayed lit. The considerable breeze quieted down in time for the ceremony and everything went as hoped. They had a harpist for the ceremony music and a stunning solo of Ave Maria sung by one of the guests during the unity candle ceremony. Laura and Michael are from Wisconsin so I am sure they appreciated the upper 70 degree weather with bright sunshine. We wish you all a very happy New Year. Our next wedding is New Year's day which happens to be our anniversary. What a great way to start a new year.

We have been taking a short break. Our next wedding is December 28th at the Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine, and then on January 1, our anniversary, we are performing a wedding at the Yacht Club in Palm Coast. We wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a safe and sane New Year's eve. We pray that the coming year will bring relief from the many problems some of our friends are suffering. I am not sure how, but God works miracles if we pray. We can't put our trust and hope in one person. We must each do our best to turn things around and with God's grace it can be done. Love to all. At 11:30 AM David and Shalea along with their combined five children, were married at Hershel King Park in Palm Coast. Shalea also has a son serving in the military who could not attend but he was included in the medallion ceremony and a medallion was placed on a picture of him and will be sent to him. Having a picture of him up with the rest of the children was not as good as having him there but it helped his mom feel a little better about missing him. The backdrop of the intracoastal waterway was a lovely addition to the scene and it turned out to be a beautiful warm day in spite of the cold weather we have been having lately.
Our son Brett came down from New Jersey to visit for the week and having not seen him in almost a year, we knew how hard it is to miss a loved one. Brett works hard and doesn't get much time off so we treasure his visits very much.
At 4:30 that same day Diane and Shaun were married in the garden of The Oldest House in St. Augustine. Diane had a large wedding party of beautiful bridesmaids and handsome groomsmen. The bridesmaids wore cranberry colored gowns which were enhanced by the holiday decorations. Each bride should have the wedding just right for her, and each of the two ceremonies that day were very different. One was a celebration of the creating of a combined family and the other was a first wedding centered on the couple and acknowledging the part that friends and family play in supporting a couple with their love. That is our goal: to be sure each bride gets the wedding of her dreams.

St. Augustine wedding

The Peck House on St. George Street in St. Augustine was the setting for the November 21st wedding of Michael and Susan. It was a very cold evening by Florida standards but the bridal couple seemed not to notice. Large propane heaters were brought in for the garden ceremony and reception and the DJ, Captain Kirk, a good friend of ours, kept everyone up and dancing which helped them keep warm. He is streaming the video of the wedding on his website www.heartbeatofflagler.com. You can't hear the ceremony very well unless you turn your sound all the way up because his microphone didn't reach but the guests could hear just fine. Rev. Ted can be very loud when he has to be. Michael and Susan love St. Augustine and go there every chance they get. There are many beautiful sites in St. Augustine for weddings. Next weekend we are going to do a wedding at The Oldest House in St. Augustine and in January at the Fountain of Youth. We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We were able to have the family together for the first time in many years so it was expeciallly wonderful for us. On Saturday we won first place for our '66 Mustang at the Volusia Regional Antique Car Show in Ormond Beach. It is a date we save every year for the parade on Friday and show on Saturday. Last year we did a wedding at the Daytona Raceway Thanksgiving weekend. We wish that lovely couple (they know who they are) a very happy first anniversary.

November

November has been a very busy month. After a long weekend with the granddaughter at Disney World and Universal Studios, we came home for the Novembe 2nd wedding of Marcus and Alyssa at the Sunset Harbor Yacht Club in Daytona Beach. Unfortunately it was a rainy day so the ceremony had to be held indoors. Alyssa was a really good sport about the changes and the wedding turned out beautifully. This couple had a memorial for the grandparents, and a sand ceremony with silvery white and pink sand. They wrote their own vows to each other and the warm and heartfelt sentiments expressed in their vows nearly brought me to tears. And I thought I had heard everything!

On November 8th Kezia and Sean were married at Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine. Their beach wedding was held under sunny skies, but it was a pleasantly warm day. Not to hot and not too windy. Kezia's colors were black and white with a touch of red. They also chose to have a memorial ceremony and a sand ceremony and had a medallion ceremony for Kezia's son who touched everyone's heart when he said he at last had a real daddy.

Later that same day Tim and Liz tied the knot at Princess Place in Palm Coast. Their colors were red and black with a touch of white. The bride wore a white gown embroidered in red with a red inset in the train. She got it at Agnes' Bridals right here in Palm Coast. They were married between two huge live oak trees under which we set the arch. They also had a memorial for their respective mothers and a sand ceremony with red and black sand. A medallion ceremony for their three sons was included. The ceremony finished off with a recessional of the "Throne Room" music from Star Wars, a beautiful piece of music.

Chapel in the Garden

Monday is an unusual day for a wedding, but since it was a holiday for some, Bill and Regina chose this Columbus Day for their wedding at the Chapel in the Garden. It is a lovely setting for a wedding. A short rain shower forced everyone indoors for a few minutes during the picture taking after the ceremony, but it stopped as quickly as it began and the photographs on the picturesque grounds continued. Pink and black were the colors of the day. The bridesmaid and maid of honor wore pink gowns and the two flower girls were in black with pink sashes. Regina was regal in her elegant gown with a cathedral train. A reception followed on site at the tavern in the garden. Regina and Bill had laminated photos of their relationship to date and had them floating in water in tall urns on the reception tables. We had never seen this done before and it was a very personal and interesting touch. They also had crystal bells on the tables for the guests to ring to have the couple kiss, but Bill and Regina needed little coaxing. Our good friend and colleague from the Volusia Wedding Professionals, Len Pepe, did the photography and was never still for a second the entire time.

Destination Wedding from Alaska

Hello again. Unfortunately, the weather turned really bad with thunder and lightening and torrential rain so the beach ceremony was moved indoors to the hotel conference room. Luckily they had had great weather the rest of their trip but we wish the rain had at least let up for the ceremony. This is only the second time I can ever remember having to move a ceremony indoors.
Be sure to ask us about doing your destination wedding. We have several time shares and can get very reasonable rates for bonus weeks. We can put together an affordable package for your wedding here in Flagler County. Just ask

Palm Coast Wedding

Last evening Laura and Jared were married on the grand lawn at the Ginn Resort in Palm Coast. It was a destination wedding with most of the guests we met coming from Massacusetts. one of the young men at our table came from the Phoenix, Arizona area. Flagler County, in which Palm Coast is located, is a great place for destination weddings. In addition to the Ginn resort, we have Hiltons, Holiday Inns and many other hotels. One new hotel opened recently and two more are in the process of being built. We are able to get special deals for couples arranging a block of rooms for their guests. We have beautiful, quiet beaches and botanical gardens, dining options from fast food to the finest dining anywhere at a much lower cost than most parts of the country. We are located right between St. Augustine and Daytona Beach so there is plenty to do to keep your guests busy, and being only a little more than an hour from Orlando gives an abundance of fun for you and your guests.
Laura wore a beautiful full length lace gown, simple in construction which was perfect for a lawn wedding. Her bridesmaids wore street length orange strapless dresses which would be perfect sundresses for any occasion, but also perfect for the setting of the wedding. The men were in khaki pants and white dress shirts, also suiting the setting to a "T". Their reception was a buffet in the Atlantic Ballroom with a band for entertainment, which I have to say is getting more unusual these days as most brides choose DJs, but it was a good choice for the elegant tone of the reception.
Just a word on receptions. It is not necessary to invite the officiant to the reception. We understand that it is an added expense to what may already be a tight budget and we are not at all offended when not invited to stay. We do, however, enjoy spending some more time with the couples we marry and we usually get to know them so well by the time we do the wedding, that we almost feel like part of the family. We have thoroughly enjoyed everything from back yard barbecues to elegant formal dinners. There is no perfect reception except the one that is perfect for you and your personality.

Simple Elegance

Erica and Joseph were married Saturday at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club. They were married on the lawn overlooking the golf course. Joseph is in the Navy and the couple was disrupted twice this summer when hurricanes approached Key West where they are stationed. They still managed to plan their wedding despite all the upheaval. The only kink was when their chair covers were delivered to the wrong venue. I guess when they changed venues the rental company did not get the message, but they were intercepted on their way back to their headquarters and were re-directed to the correct place in time for the reception. It is a good idea to call all the vendors the week before the wedding to make sure everyone is on the same track. Erica and Joseph had a violinist play their ceremony music. It was a lovely touch.
They had fun during the ceremony as Rev. Ted worked to calm their nerves. Erica's mom was on the verge of tears over her "baby" getting married, but Ireminded her that she might have grandchildren in her future now and that is the best fun ever.

Matanzas Beach Wedding

Friday evening was the wedding of Peter and Tracy at the beach at Matanzas State Park. We played some caribbean steel drum music on our portable Bose system. It made for a very festive atmosphere. The bridesmaids wore pretty flowered sun dresses and the bride wore a traditional wedding gown. Tracy and Peter altered the traditional sand ceremony so that Tracy's three children could participate. Each of the five of them had a different color of sand and the resulting combined container was extraordiary. Tracy's older daughter was a junior bridesmaid and her younger daughter was the flower girl who took her duty very seriously. Her son was the ring bearer, but wisely did not actually carry the rings. Rings have been known to fall between the boards of the walkway or drop into the sand so it is never a good ideal to have the real rings carried by any child. If you are using a ring pillow, use cheap plastic rings to tie onto the pillow and keep the real ones with the best man, maid of honor, or the minister. The child can walk up to the couple and pretend to give them the rings, and everyone accepts this whether they think he has the real rings or not. I am sure Peter, Tracy and their children will have a very happy family life together.

Rehearsals

I would like to say a few words about wedding ceremony rehearsals. We don't do them. There are many reasons for this decision on our part not to do wedding rehearsals.
First, our brides get to read their wedding ceremonies in plenty of time before the wedding so they know what takes place when. During the ceremony they are directed by the words of the ceremony to what comes next. For the most part, they are standing there in front of the Reverend and standing at a forty five degree angle to him so they can see each other and him and their guests can see them. The only time they have to move is to do the unity candle or sand ceremony or a medallion ceremony. Then they just have to move a little bit and they can see where they have to go. Then of course, they kiss at the end, but this comes naturally.
Second, rounding up attendants to run through the processional is like herding greased pigs. Some can't make it because they have to work late, others have prior obligations. You would be amazed. The ones that come are impatient to get it over and get to the partying and are paying no attention. The ones that sort of pay attention forget the next day what was done the night before. I asked a group of groomsmen what they did at the rehearsal last week and they said "got drunk." You get the picture. The ones that didn't come get panicked because they don't know what to do and they think the others do. (They don't either).
Third, if you are having your ceremony at a country club, hotel, banquet hall, then they have paid staff to run though the rehearsal if you insist. Just fill us in quickly when we get there so we know what is going on and everything is fine. If you are having a home, beach or garden wedding, the weather could change everything anyway. We have been doing this for years and we know what we are doing. You have been walking a straight line for years and you know what you are doing. We just need to know which one is the best man, which one is the maid of honor and you can email us any special details like if the parents are entering to music, if the bride is being escorted by her father or whomever, and if you want the men to wait up front or escort the bridesmaids down the aisle. We need to charge for our time and travel and we do not want to cause you any unneeded expense by having a rehearsal that is not needed. If you want to party, that's fine. Use is as an occasion to give your attendants their gifts and to give them a rough idea of the order they will enter and where they will stand. We will be glad to discuss this with you but we don't need to be there.

A beautiful chapel

Sunday, Sept 21st was the wedding of Kenneth and Katherine. They were married at the Preservation Hall in Jacksonville. This is a rather small chapel which is perfect for a church wedding for those with no church affiliation. The chapel seats about eighty which is a nice size for a wedding. They had the reception on the lawn outside the chapel. The day before it rained heavily almost all day, but Kenneth and Katerine had a lovely day for their outdoor reception. Immediately after the ceremony the sky was misting a little bit but it was not enough to dampen the festivities, and the clouds kept it from being oppressively hot. Katherine's white gown had a brilliant light blue sash which beautifully accented her gown. The bridesmaids were in blue and the groomsmen had blue vests and ties. We made up their books of the ceremony with blue sky and white cloud covers. They had light blue and white sand for their sand ceremony. Their ceremony music was a collection of their favorites including "The Way You Look Tonight" for the attendants, "God Bless the Broken Road" for the bride and "At Last" for the recessional. Kenneth and Katherine were delightful to work with and we wish them a long and happy life together.

Two in one day

Last Saturday, the 13th, was a very busy day. We had two weddings, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Orange Park was the setting for the 3 PM wedding of Audrey and Brandon. Audrey chose a black and white theme. Her white dress had a black sash to accent it and her bridesmaids and groom and groomsmen all wore black. Her cake was black and white as were the table settings. The wedding was held at the Oakleaf Plantation clubhouse. It was a beautiful venue with an elegant double staircase and gardens for a backdrop. She had a memorial candle for her father before the start of the ceremony and was given away by her uncle who said it was he and his brother (Audrey's father) who were giving her away.

5:30 in the evening Tina and Richard were married at the Ginn Ocean Hammock resort in Palm Coast. They had the ceremony on the lawn in front of the resort with Tina descending the grand staircase to greet her groom. There was a view of the ocean from the lawn and it was an elegant event. Her reception was outdoors and featured a cake by one of our favorite bakers, Publix supermarket, who made her a cake decorated with icing calla lillies with a topper to match. There is no waiting time for out-of-state residents so if your are being married on a weekday, you can get the license in the morning and be married before the ink dries on it. Emily and Matthew both attended the University of Florida and are ardent Gators fans. The wedding colors were orange and blue, the colors of the Gators team. After the vows, the best man, Jeff, attached a ball and chain to Matthew's ankle to the delight of Emily. Even their cake topper had a bride holding a key to the ball and chain on the groom's ankle. Also on the cake table were a pair of toy alligators dressed as a bride and groom. As the couple had their first kiss as husband and wife, all the guests donned plastic blue and orange sunglasses with big noses attached which caused Rev. Ted to almost break down laughting as he wasn't expecting to look up to see that spectacle. The wedding and reception were held at the Ginn Hammock Dunes Resort which did a beautiful job in decorating the ballroom in blue and orange. John Edwards, a country song writer and singer came in from Nashville to do a few songs just for the newlyweds. And of course the Gators fight song was played along with many country favorites during the reception. To top off the celebration, Emily just got word that she has passed the bar exam and is now an attorney. Best wishes to them both.

The end of August

Brandon and Stacy were married at the Palatka Ravine Gardens in Palatka on Saturday, August 23rd. We had never been there before and it is a really beautiful place and a great backdrop for a wedding. I am sure their pictures, taken by our good friend and photographer Bill Vodek, were spectacular. Even if you are not getting married, I recommend a trip to the gardens. It is as beautiful as anything we saw on our vacation to Tahiti, Bora Bora and Hawaii. After a few days celebrating our Granddaughter Kaylie's ninth birthday in Coconut Creek, we came back to work with a wedding Thursday at Washington Oaks. It seems to be a very popular place this summer. Mike and Brandy were married at the Gazebo with just a few friends and relatives present. A wedding does not have to be big to be special. All three weddings this week were intimate events with just a few guests. Saturday Sean and Christina were married on the beach at Jacksonville Beach. There was a huge storm cloud approaching as the ceremony neared its end, but we heard from our other photographer, John Hyder, that he had plenty of time to finish up the beach pictures before it started to rain. Sean and Christina came down from Georgia to our beautiful beach for their wedding. Sunday was another Washington Oaks wedding. Brian and Stephanie were wed in the morning with just the immediate family present and also had their wedding in the Gazebo. They were amused by the story of the time I was taking some pictures of a wedding in the Gazebo and fell into the pond next to it. I am glad that at that time I did not know about the snakes in it. They don't bother anyone who stays on the path, but to swim with them is something else.

Washington Oaks Wedding

Last Sunday was the wedding of Jennifer and Jason. They were married under a huge, old, magnificent live oak tree at Washing Oaks state park. This park is a popular and beautiful site for weddings. For just the couple and a few guests, the gazebo is a lovely site by the pond. The sea wall site overlooks the intracoastal waterway and is surrounded by tropical vegetation. The octagon is a large brick platform which the bride can approach through the rose garden. These last two sites can hold a much larger number of guests. Chairs are not necessary except for elderly or infirmed guests as with a fifteen to twenty minute ceremony, most guests are comfortable enough standing. If it is very warm, you can do what Jennifer and Jason did which was to give each guest a fan with the bridal couple's name on it, but the trees offer some shade which helps.

It's August!

I can't believe a whole month has passed. The summer is flying by. Time has been spent with our beautiful, smart and talented granddaughter Kaylie as well as working on future weddings. September is going to be a very busy month. After a vacation with family we got back to work with a wedding for a lovely couple having a sunrise wedding at the beach. The sun came up with all its glory at 7 AM but the couple did not arrive until 7:30. Their ceremony was still lovely, but it was hard for the photographer because the sun was at a point where it was glaring into his lens. Be sure to check the sunrise tables and ask the locals before planning a time for your sunrise wedding, and then be on time. The sun waits for no one.
On sunday the 27th of July, Chris and Attie had a wedding in the back yard of the beach house they rented in Ormond Beach. The weather was great but a little hot. It is important to remember that when you are having an outdoor wedding in the summer (which in this part of Florida runs from May through October), to keep the ceremony under twenty minutes. That is about as long as your guests can be expected to sit or stand in the sun. Also, if you are having the reception outdoors as well, provide shade. Chris and Attie rented tents which were a needed respite from the hot sun.

July 3 was the beach wedding of Barbara and Fred. It was a private wedding with just her mom and dad as witnesses. Barbara and Fred are from Green Cove Springs and came down to Flagler Beach for a vacation and wedding. There are very few places where you can have complete privacy on the beach, but Flagler Beach is one of them. This Thursday is another quiet beach wedding for Cindy and Jay. They will be having the big celebration later when they return home. Then we are off to visit our granddaughter for a few days in Ft. Lauderdale. I think a trip to the water park is included in this trip. It was a hectic three day weekend for the Fourth of July holiday with a car show, parade and picnic barbecue. We hope your Fourth was safe and happy too.

Something different

Last sunday, June 22 was the wedding of Angelica and Sean at the Sunset Harbor Yacht Club. It was a lovely and elegant affair. This couple were high school sweethearts who waited until they had established their careers and bought a house and were finally ready to take the big step of getting married. Yesterday was something really different. We performed a double wedding of Peggy and Keith and Peggy's daughter Shannon and her fiance Chad. It was a Hawaiian themed wedding with real orchid leis flown in from Hawaii for the celebration. Rev. Ted and I had a chance to wear the outfits we bought in Maui last October. We had a first in that this wedding had to be moved indoors because of a horrific thunderstorm which started just moments before the ceremony. The storm was headed away and then turned around and came back. We can no longer say it has never rained on one of our weddings so if you catch us saying it out of habit be sure to remind us of this one.

Last weekend was the wedding of Brandon and Hillary in Jacksonville Beach. Once again the weather was perfect. Brandon and Hillary had the stone ceremony where all their guests walked down to the water's edge at the beach and threw special polished stones with which they had placed their wishes for the couple, as far into the water as they could so that the wishes could be carried out to sea and up to God. Everyone seemed to have a good time. The next morning we left for a long awaited vacation to New Hampshire and Massacusetts to do some ancestry research. It was very successful as we completed four lines of ancestors for Ted. We look forward to being back home to do two weddings next weekend. Although rain threatened, it stayed away until the wedding was over. It was held on the beachside of the park. Danny and Kelly are from the middle part of the country so they were delighted to have the ocean as a backdrop. The heavy clouds made the pictures more interesting and kept the temperature down to a tolerable level.

We took off Memorial weekend to spend some time with our daughter Ariel and granddaughter Kaylie. We went to Disney's Animal Kingdom and had a great time. The Mt. Everest Expedition roller coaster is the best ever! We stayed two nights in Orlando and then came back home. The next day we went up to St. Augustine. We got to the fort just before they were going to fire off the muskets and cannons so we had an unexpected treat. We took the trolly ride around the city and had Kaylie's picture taken in a victorian outfit. So cute. She is doing a report on St. Augustine in fourth grade next year so she took a lot of pictures and collected a lot of information. She made the gifted class for next year and we are so proud of her.

The 7th of June we have two weddings, one in Jax Beach and one in Palm Coast so we will be very busy.

The past week and things to come

It has been a very busy week. Last week we had a wedding on Flagler Beach. Just the couple, Sherri and Joseph, were there (besides us of course), but is was a beautiful ceremony nonetheless. Sherri and Joseph had to head up to Pennsylvania for a family emergency right after the ceremony, so we didn't get to spend much time with them. We are sending them our prayers that everything works out according to God's plan and that they are comforted by Him in their time of need.

Saturday was a bright and beautiful day for the wedding of Dustin and Calley at the Ginn Hammock Beach resort. They had the ceremony on the events lawn. Dustin and Calley had the sand ceremony (orange and ivory sand) as part of their wedding. They gave out flip flops and fans to all the guests in keeping with the beach theme. They used large conch shells to hold their sand which was a unique touch. They flowers were orange calla lillies for the bridesmaids and white calla lillies for the bride. The flowers were quickly renamed Calley lillies in honor of the bride.

This Saturday, May 17th will be the wedding day for Kelly and Danny. It was a perfect day. The weather was just a little cloudy which kept the heat down and make the photos better. When we got there Pamela was all ready and all the guest showed up on time. Pam & Steven chose the traditional wedding music: "Trumpet Voluntary", "Here comes the Bride" for the processional and Mendelssohn's "The Wedding March" for the recessional. They had blue and white sand for their sand ceremony and Steven gave Pamela's son Dylan a family medallion in the Medallion Ceremony. Dylan was a superb ring bearer marching down the aisle with such dignity and perfect posture. He was surprised by the medallion ceremony and was so pleased to be part of the ceremony. We wish Pamela and Steve all life's best and may they live long in love and happiness.

Welcome to Exceptional Weddings

Hello! Thank's for stopping by to meet us. We just want to let you know what we are up to this week. This Saturday we are doing the wedding of Steven and Pamela in Deltona. What a great couple! They were just really good friends, enjoying each other's company when they finally realized they had fallen in love. They chose the sand ceremony in royal blue and white, the colors of their wedding theme. When I spoke to Pamela today she seemed so calm and said that everything was ready to go. We are ready too and are sure everything will be just perfect on their special day.
